DHAKA: The transport strike, enforced by Bangladesh Road Transport Workers Federation, in 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions was withdrawn on Thursday morning after the government assured them of meeting it demands.
Transports resumed services on all routes of the divisions immediately after calling off the strike.
Rangpur Division road transport workers Federation president Akhter Hossain told banglanews, “The strike was withdrawn after the authorities concerned of the government assured them of releasing Shimul Biswas,.”

Earlier, transport leaders forewarned the government that they would go for stern movements if Advocate Shimul Biswas, also special assistant to the opposition BNP Chairperson Khalda Zia, is not released.
On November 9, Detective Branch (DB) Police arrested BNP Chairperson’s advisor Abdul Awal Mintu and personal assistant Shimul Biswas from Chairperson’s Gulshan residence.
