200 factories shut in Ashulia

ASHULIA, DHAKA: The authorities concerned declared closed more than two hundreds garment factories in Ashulia, on the outskirt of capital, Thursday amid workers unrest.

Sources said that thousands of workers of readymade garments locked into fierce clash with police, demanding minimum salary Tk 8, 000 per month.

Later, the agitating factory workers took to the street and started throwing brick-chips aiming factories.

At one stage of agitation, the workers put barricade on Baipail- Abdullahpur highway and vandalized couples of vehicles.

On information, police rushed to the spot and fired tear shells, rubber bullets and charged baton to bring the situation under control, leaving 50 injured.

Industrial Police Director Mostafizur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.
