DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday placed five top leaders of main opposition BNP on an eight-day remand for police interrogation in two cases filed with the city’s Motijheel Police Station.
After two phases of hearings, Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim passed the order.
The leaders are BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, MK Anwar, BNP chairperson’s adviser Abdul Awal Mintoo and her personal assistant Advocate Shimul Biswas.
Earlier in the morning, the detainees were taken to the court from Dhaka central jail.
On Friday, police arrested the five senior BNP leaders.
Later, two cases were filed against them under the Explosive Act and vehicle vandalism and obstructing police from discharging their duties.
