Huffy Dr Nasimul now in Malaysia

FROM KUALA LUMPUR: There is no still full Professor in Forensic Department in Bangladesh whereas a Bangladeshi Dr Nasimul Islam, the only Forensic Pathologist, is employed in Malaysia as Professor.

Our “nasty politics” has rather forced him to go out of the country.

In 2001 Dr Nasimul Islam was appointed as an Associate Professor in Dhaka Medical College. At that time Awami League was in power. In 2002 when BNP led four-party alliance came to power Dr Nasimul was colored as an Awami League supporter. He told banglanews that I was never active in any politics. I always wanted justification of the competence.

He is employed as a Professor and Senior Consultant of Forensic Pathologist in University Technology Murray of Malaysia.

There is a big difference of age between him and me. He is an ardent reader of Banglanews. The distance between Sungai Buloho and Kuala Lumpur is far away. On last Monday, he gave me phone call from Bukit Bintang Radisson Hotel. Then he invited me to get on his car.

The car started moving towards UITM in Selangar. On way he was introducing me with many way side places.  From experiences during my brief stay here in Malaysia I was asking him some petty questions.

In one write up the success stories of Dr Nasimul is never ending. He is appointed in many posts in UITM. He is working as a coordinator of forensic science discipline of Medicine Faculty.

He is the adviser (student & Alumni) of deputy dean of the same faculty, member of academic board, coordinator of MBBS, head of medical cluster institute of forensic science and head of forensic unit.

Besides, he is the chairman of the organizing committee of INPALMS 2013 and he is working as the visiting professor of Kiyo university of Japan and IBMC of Bangladesh.

Here in this country he is called for any major crime investigation. He told that for identifying criminal and crime it needs skilled forensic pathologist. The government of this country understands it.

He has a conceit on his own country. He said that he had strong desire to do something for the country.  For the reason he left the high salaried job of UNDP. But when the government was changed the Public Service Commission (PSC) changed the recommendation without informing me.

When he was asked to return to country he replied that still he is thinking over it. But he has some sort of sentimental disappointment about it.

He expressed his disappointment about the forensic department of his own country. He said that they have no mission or vision. For it cannot go up to the mark.

While I was in the country I advised to introduce separate forensic departments at BSMMU or police department so that the forensic reports of any sensational crime can be cross checked.

From his experience of the country he told that where political consideration plays role there cannot be any progress. In many cases the competent, experienced and meritorious are rotten as lecturer.

He said, “We need some plan to do well but, still now we could not build a good mortuary in our country.”

After a hazardous journey in life Dr Nasimul has reached here. He was born in a converted family. The whole family was isolated in the society.

He told that some time I had to go half fed or unfed. But I had a knack for study.
The 55 year life of Nasimul is full of struggle. When we were going to enter the university campus he told me that you will see that here the professors are of much aged but only I am the young.

He showed me the whole campus of university technology of Murray. The beautiful university is located at the curves of the mountain. In 14 provinces of Malaysia there are branches of this university.

About 1 lakh 70 thousand students, highest in number read in this university. We snapped many photographs at different places of the campus.

Next we sat in the chamber of Dr Nasimul. Associate professor Dr. Md. Nazmul Hassan came to us receiving phone call of Dr. Nasimul. He is a man of very pleasant nature. He came to Malaysia in 2001. Now he is thinking to settle here permanently.

Nazmul said what amount we get here as salary life is nice. Social life is good, man has respect. The price of food and house rent is cheap. Nazmul left us for attending an emergency meeting.

Working hour was over. Then Nasimul took me to the bio-chemistry department of medicine faculty where I was introduced with professor Jesmin khan, wife of Nasimul.

Then we went to Nasimul’s residence and had light Bangalee snacks. In the evening Nasimul driving his own car gave me lift to Bukit Bintang.

On way he also narrated stories of his life.

The number of published research papers, national and international scientific articles and special research papers are enormous. Moreover it is unending to tell in one write -up about his active professional involvement places.
