SYLHET: At least 30 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Kazir Bazar of the metropolitan city early Sunday.

Sources said that seeing the fire in a shop at around 3:00am, the night guards of the area shouted and locals rushed to the spot.

Later, five fire fighting units rushed to the spot and doused the fire after one hour frantic effort.

Fire service office sources said that the fire might have originated from electric short circuit.

The extent of loss from the fire could not be known immediately.
