US observers want peaceful election in Bangladesh: CEC

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Tuesday (October 10) said the US Pre-election observation team wants free, fair, participatory, and peaceful elections in Bangladesh.

CEC was talking to reporters after the meeting with the visiting pre-election observation team in the capital today.

Kazi Habibul Awal said that the pre-election observation team of the US wants free, fair, participatory, and peaceful 12th National Parliament elections.

He said, “The visiting members during the meeting wanted to know about the role, responsibilities and activities of the Election Commission. We have explained to them regarding our activities.”

Asked whether the US will send election-time observers, CEC said, "I have no idea if they will send observers during elections. The visiting team may return to the country and decide in this regard. 

Besides, other Election Commissioners and senior officials of the EC participated in the meeting.
