A Chuadanga court on Sunday sentenced Khairul Islam, 24, to life imprisonment in a rape case under Sadar upazila in 2024. The court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on the convict.

Judge of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal, Syed Habibul Islam, announced the verdict in the presence of the convict, according to Public Prosecutor MM Shahjahan Mukul.

The prosecution stated that on the night of September 9, 2024, Khairul Islam forcibly raped a seventh-grade student at a mango orchard in Sumirdia area of Chuadanga town. The victim’s father later filed a case with Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

Sub-Inspector Jagadish Chandra Basu investigated the case and filed a charge-sheet on November 20, 2024, naming Khairul Islam as the sole accused. 

Earlier, the accused gave a confessional statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before Judge Md. Touhidul Islam of the Judicial Magistrate First Court of Chuadanga.
