At least six people, including four readymade garment workers, were killed and 10 others injured after a bus hit another bus from behind at Trishal upazila in Mymensingh district on Wednesday.
The accident took place in Chelerghat area on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway around 7:30 am.
Trishal Police Station officer-in-charge (OC) Md Moinuddin confirmed the matter.
Five of the deceased were identified as Jesmin Akter, 30, Shimul Ahmed Joy, 28, Kamruzzaman Liton, 28, Bakhtiar Hossain Shohel, 35, and Altab Hossain, 60.
However, the identity of a woman victim could not be known immediately.
According to eyewitnesses and fire service, a Dhaka-bound bus from Sherpur broke down at Chelerghat in Trishal upazila. Later, the bus stopped beside the road and tried to fix the wheel. In the meantime, some passengers of the bus signaled another bus to stop. Meanwhile, another bus came and hit the standing passengers and the bus. Three garment workers died on the spot. Another garment worker died on the way to the hospital.
Later, seven of the 12 injured were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where two more succumbed to their injuries.
