Woman in Chuadanga gets life term in drug case

A Chuadanga court on Thursday (October 12) sentenced a woman to life imprisonment in a drug case.

The convict Rashida Khatun, 64, is the wife of Rabiul Islam of Akundabaria village of Chuadanga Sadar upazila.

Judge Humayun Kabir Sarkar of Chuadanga Additional District and Sessions Court-1 passed the order at around 2:00pm.

According to the case statement, on the morning of August 1, 2012, a team of District Narcotics Control Directorate raided Rashida Khatun's house in Akundabaria village. Fifty bottles of Indian Phensedyl were recovered after searching her house.

Rashida Khatun was arrested after a case was filed against her under Narcotics Control Act at Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

On September 10 of the same year, Sub-Inspector Abdul Hannan of Narcotics Control Directorate filed a charge sheet in the court against Rashida.

After taking the testimony of five out of six witnesses, the judge gave the verdict this afternoon, advocate Iftekhar Hossain Khokon added.
