Ferry services resume after 11-hr

MUNSHIGANJ: Ferry services on Mawa-Kawrakandi river route resumed after an 11-hour halt since Friday night due to poor visibility for dense fog.

BIWTC sources said that 10 ferries, which got stuck in the mid of Padma river with more than three hundred vehicles, started journey for respective destinations at around 10am as the fog cleared.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Mawa Office Assistant Manager (Commercial) Chandra Shekhar told banglanews, “The ferry services were halted as 10 ferries got stranded in the mid of Padma at around 11:00pm.”

Confirming the matter, Mawa River police outpost Sub-Inspector Hafizur Rahman told banglanews, “More than three hundred vehicles remained stranded at Mawa ghat due to ferry service disruption and the numbers of vehicles are increasing that pushed hundreds of passengers into serious sufferings.”
