Sixty-one candidates regained their candidature on the third day of appeal hearing as the Election Commission (EC) today (December 12).

However, EC disposed of 98 more appeals, taking the total number of regaining candidature to 168 to contest in the next general elections, scheduled to be held on January 7 next year.

Of the 98 appeals, 35 were rejected by the commission while the results of two appeals will be disclosed later.

Led by Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal, the EC delivered the verdicts after reviewing the appeals at the Nirbachan Bhaban in the city's Agargaon area this afternoon.
