The home ministry today (December 13) directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to stop gatherings and political events aiming to maintain a peaceful atmosphere ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal issued the directive to the IGP through a letter.
In the letter, the home minister instructed the IGP to undertake necessary measures to prevent any form of meetings, assemblies, or political programmes, except those related to the election campaign, from December 18 until the conclusion of the polling.
Copies of the letter have also been sent to the Election Commission Secretary, divisional commissioners, police commissioners, deputy inspector generals of police, district administrators and police suppers across the country to make the efforts a success.
