Whip Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury has continued to violate the electoral code of conduct by attracting voters and taking money from the government’s projects.
Awami League-nominated candidate Motaherul Islam Chowdhury logged a complaint with the district returning officer on Wednesday (December 20).
Chowdhury is contesting the parliamentary election from Chattogram-12 (Patiya) constituency as an independent candidate, as the incumbent lawmaker failed to get a party ticket for his controversial activities.
Violating the electoral code of conduct, the lawmaker is disbursing allocations from different projects of Kabikha programmes and tube-wells to various union parishad members.
Awami League nominated candidate Motaherul Islam Chowdhury told the media that Samshul Haque Chowdhury is distributing tube-wells to influence voters, which is a violation of the code.
“I have complained to the district returning officer to prevent these issues, and DC assured action on this matter,” he said.
Patiya upazila nirbahi officer Mohammad Alauddin Bhuiyan said that action will be taken as per the order of the district returning officer.
Chattogram deputy commissioner Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said that he received such a complaint.
“The assistant returning officer has been directed to take action as per law, taking the complaint into cognisance.
Candidates have no authority to distribute such allotment after the declaration of the schedule,” he said.
Earlier, Whip Shamsul and his followers have been giving supporters of the Awami League directly and in different ways for supporting the candidate of the boat symbol.
