The driver and helper of a cargo truck were killed when a Khulna-bound “Rocket Mail” train hit the vehicle in Jessore on Sunday (December 24).

The deceased were identified as driver Parvez and assistant Nazmul. Both hailed from Jhenidah district.

The accident took place at the Churamankati railway crossing in Jessore around 5:30am amid heavy fog, according to locals.

The goods-laden truck was going to Jashore from Moheshpur, they said, adding the accident happened as the crossing barrier was not on the rail line.

They assumed that the accident took place as the on-duty employee at the crossing was sleeping at that time.

Kotwali Model police Station officer in charge (OC) Abdur Razzak said the truck was retrieved from the accident site, and the bodies of the deceased were sent to Jessore General Hospital.
