Supporters of Dilip Kumar Agarwala were sued on Sunday for disrupting the electoral campaign of the Awami League nominated candidate in Chuadanga.
Businessman-turned-politician Dilip is contesting as an independent candidate with the Eagle symbol against Solaiman Haque Joardar, the Awami League nominee from the Chuadanga-1 constituency.
Hashem Ali, a supporter of Joardar, filed the case with Sadar police station citing the names of 29 activists of Agarwala including former UP Chairman Abu Taher Biswas.
In the case, supporters of Agarwala have allegedly been charged with abducting, and beating up activists of the Awami League candidate.
Chuadanga police station OC Sheikh Sikandar Ali has confirmed that there has been no arrest within twenty-four hours since filing the case.
Independent candidate Dilip Kumar Agarwala faced obstacles from supporters of the Awami League nominated candidate on Saturday night.
The day after the incident, Abdul Malek, chief coordinator of Eagle symbol, filed a case on Sunday against 100 to 120 unidentified persons, mentioning the names of 22 people, including the 5 arrested.
Awami League nominated Solaiman Haque Joardar in a press conference on Monday claimed that Agarwala filed cases with false, baseless and fabricated allegations.
“DC Kissinger Chakma and SP Faizur Rahman continue to make efforts for fair elections. They have been informed about the true picture of the Saturday night incident and the position of the Awami League,” he said.
