Bangladeshi shot dead by BSF along Sylhel border 

A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead allegedly by the members of the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) along Bichanakandi border of Gowainghat upazila in Sylhet on Friday (December 29) night.

The incident took place around 9.30pm within 400 yards of 1263 main pillar along the border area in the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Kawser Ahmed, 26, son of Ruson Mia, a resident of South Bogaiya village under Rustampur union in the upazila.

Bichanakandi border outpost commander subeder Altaf Hossain confirmed the matter.

He said Kawser was allegedly involved in smuggling sugar from India. On Friday night, when he tried to intrude India through the border to smuggle sugar, BSF shot him dead on the spot.

The family members of the deceased took the body from the spot, he said.

Besides, a legal process would be followed in this regard, the commander added.
