Nation welcomes New Year amid panic

DHAKA: Nation welcomed 2014 in a festive mood with gala, fireworks and concerts amid panic of political tremulous in the country in the very beginning moments of this year.

Peoples wished for a new pledge and desire of a better future and political stability in New Year celebration in TSC Dhaka University, different clubs, local and international chain hotels.

The merriment of 2014 was on with countdown from 11.50 counting 10, 9, 8, 7…… with releasing air balloons, fire works and sharing greetings, wishes to each other.     

Though apprehension of sabotage and violence ahead of indefinite blockade called by BNP led 18-party alliance, disrupted the New Year celebration, Bangladesh welcomes 2014 with colorful programmes at different spots of the capital and other parts of the country.

For the lack of negotiation between the government and opposition party, the first day of 2014 began amid nationwide road-rail-waterways blockade.  

Tight security measures were taken by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to avert any untoward condition or chaos in different parts of city ahead of New Year celebration.
