Two killed in Karwan Bazar Mollabari slum fire

Tow persons were killed and several others injured in a fire at Mollabari slum in Dhaka's Karwan Bazar early Saturday (Jan 13).

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Besides, a woman and her child were also injured in the incident. They were identified as Nazma, 25, and her son Nazrul.

Nazma’s husband Omar Farooq took them to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said Inspector Md Bacchu Miah, in-charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police outpost

Omar Farooq said they work in the fish market of Karwan Bazar and live in Mollabari slum.

Someone might ignite the fire in the slum due to extreme cold, he added.

The fire originated around 2:23am at Mollabari slum near Film Development Corporation (FDC), said Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell officer Shahjahan Sikder.

On information, 13 fire engines doused the blaze around 3:40am, he said.

Later, the firefighters recovered the two bodies, he added.
