A huge assignment of gold ornament weighing over 4.5 kilograms was seized at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram on Saturday (Jan 13) morning.

These gold ornaments were found under a passenger seat of a flight Biman Bangladesh Airlines coming from Sharjah.

Acting on a tip-off, Members of Customs Intelligence & Investigation Directorate (CIID) and National Security Intelligence (NSI) conducted a raid in the flight (BG-152) around 8.40am and recovered the gold in an abandoned state, said an official of the team.

However, none was arrested in this connection, he said.

The market value of the seized gold is Tk 3,89,71,360 crore, the official said.

The legal processing of this seized gold is underway, the official added.
