DHAKA: The first death anniversary of Nirmal Sen, a politician, eminent writer and journalist, was observed Wednesday.
On January 8 in 2013 he passed away. As per his wish, the body was donated for medical research.
Comrade Nirmal Sen Death Anniversary Commemorative Meeting Preparatory Committee placed a floral wreath at his portrait at the temporary stage at Nirmal Sen auditorium on 23/2 Topkhana Road in the capital at 10:30am.
Sen was born on August 3, 1930 at Dighirpar village of Kotalipara in Gopalganj district.
He got involved in political activities in 1942 when he was a student of class IX.
Sen started journalism when he was in class VIII. He became a professional journalist in 1956.
He worked for the Dainik Jehad, Ittefaq, Dainik Pakistan and Dainik Bangla.
He was the elected presidents of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) for 1971-72 and Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) for 1972-78.
He was a life member of Jatiya Press Club. He was also a guest teacher of Mass Communication and Journalism Department at Dhaka University.
