ICT Chief Prosecutor Ghulam Arieff Tipoo dies at 93

Ghulam Arieff Tipoo, the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT), has died in hospital care at the age of 93.

He breathed his last around 8am at Lab Aid Hospital while undergoing treatment there, confirmed Prosecutor Mokhlesur Rahman Badal.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the demise of the ICT chief prosecutor.

The government appointed him as the chief of the war crimes prosecution panel in 2010 when the tribunal was formed to try the people involved in crimes committed during the Liberation War in 1971.

Tipoo was born on August 28 in 1931 at Kamlakantapur village of Shibganj upazila under the then Maldah district of the British-India and now Chapainawabganj district.
