A lawyer was hacked to death in the Kotwali area of Chattogram city on Tuesday (November 26).
The deceased was identified as Advocate Saiful Islam Alif, 35, son of Jamal Uddin. He was a member of the Chattogram District Bar Association and hailed from Chunati village in Lohagara upazila.
Nurul Alam Ashiq, in-charge of the Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) police outpost, confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
Didar, who brought Saiful to the hospital, said that followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, a leader of the Sammilita Sanatani Jote, attacked Saiful in front of the Rongom Community Center around 3:30 pm.
The lawyer was rushed to CMCH, where doctors pronounced him dead, he added.
Advocate Nazim Uddin Chowdhury, president of the Chattogram District Bar Association, told Banglanews, “Saiful Islam Alif was critically injured in a knife attack in front of Rongom Community Center. We are currently at the hospital with the association’s leadership.”
Following the incident, six platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed in Chattogram to maintain law and order. Additionally, a significant number of police personnel were stationed in the area.
An investigation into the incident was underway, police said.
