The RMG workers staged a demonstration by blocking roads against the closure of a garment factory causing a long tailback at Banani of the capital on Saturday morning (May 4).

During the protest, severe traffic jam was created on almost all the roads from Mohakhali to Airport.

The workers started the protest around 8:30am. The common people are in a difficult state to reach their destination.

Banani Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kazi Sahan Haque said that the workers are protesting against the closure of a factory named 'Neparel Garments Limited'. They blocked the road in front of Sainik Club around 8:30am. 

Police tried to convince them but they were not moving off from the road. Additional police have been deployed to deal with the situation, he added.

''We have contacted the owner of the garment," the OC said, adding the garment authority would discuss the issue with the workers.'
