A total of 418 platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order during the first phase of the 6th Upazila Parishad elections to be held on Wednesday.
The BGB personnel will work as a mobile and striking force aiming to cooperate the civil administration in the election areas till 10 May, said Shariful Islam, public relations officer of BGB.
Also, Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Party (VDP) have deployed nearly 1.60 lakh security personnel to ensure security during the polls.
According to the Election Commission, elections will be held in 10,605 polling stations in 141 upazilas of 59 districts across the country in the first phase of the Upazila Parishad elections.
