Cop, Swechchhasebak Dal leader among 3 killed in Jashore road crash

Three people, including a police officer and a former central leader of the Swechchhasebak Dal, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Narail–Jashore highway late on Sunday (Sept 14).

The crash occurred around 11 p.m. near the Bhangaura Bazar area in Jashore. A Narail Express passenger bus traveling to Dhaka lost control and rammed into a stationary truck loaded with bamboo.

The victims were identified as Sub-Inspector (SI) Nikkon Adhya, posted at the Lahuria Investigation Centre under Narail’s Lohagara police station and son of Nishikanta Adhya of Bagharpara, Jashore; Akhtar Hossain, son of Ahmad Ali of Basundia, Jashore; and Abu Jafar, son of Abdul Majid of Bekutia, Jashore.

Local residents found Akhtar Hossain dead at the scene. Critically injured passengers Abu Jafar and SI Nikkon Adhya were rushed to Jashore General Hospital, where Jafar was pronounced dead.

The police officer was later referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment but his condition deteriorated on the way, forcing rescuers to take him to Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared him dead shortly after midnight on Monday (Sept 15).

Narail District BNP’s Organising Secretary, Engineer Robiul Islam, confirmed that Abu Jafar was a former joint secretary of the party’s central Swechchhasebak Dal committee.

Police sources said SI Nikkon Adhya had joined the Bangladesh Police as an outside cadet of the 37th batch and had previously served with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB). He had been posted at Lahuria Investigation Centre since February this year and was returning from giving testimony at a court in Munshiganj when the accident occurred.
