CHITTAGONG: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, is underway in the port city on Wednesday.
The organization is observing the shutdown in protest against killing of its leader of Chittagong University.
Metropolitan Deputy Police Commissioner (Sadar) Masud-ul- Hasan told banglanews, “No untoward situation was reported yet but Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and police forces were deployed in various spots of the city.”
Banglanews special correspondent reports: Though there was lack of public service vehicles but Tempu, CNG-run auto rickshaws were seen plying throughout the city streets.
Besides, the rail communication remained normal.
Baroawlia Thana Officer-in-Charge Syed Jakir Hossain told banglanews, “Long routes bus service remained stopped and no subversive activities were reported on Chittagong-Cox’s Bazar highway.”
