BSF pushes more 23 Bangladeshis through Panchagarh border

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) has pushed in 23 Bangladeshis, including women, men and a child, through the Harivasha union border in Panchagarh’s Sadar upazila.

The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed them over to Sadar police on Wednesday (August 13) around 12 noon on the basis of a general diary (GD).

Earlier, in the early hours of Tuesday, the 23 individuals were pushed in through sub-pillar 2 of main pillar 757 in the Borobari area of the Ghagra border under Harivasha union. Among them are 13 women, nine men and one child.

Locals spotted them after the push-in and took them to the Harivasha Union Parishad office. Upon receiving information, the BGB brought them to the local Ghagra border outpost camp before handing them over to Panchagarh Sadar police based on a GD.

According to local sources, all of them had been working in Mumbai and other parts of India as domestic helpers and labourers.

Panchagarh Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Abdullah Hil Zaman told Banglanews that 23 people were handed over to the police by the BGB on the basis of a GD.

Efforts are underway to confirm their identities, while steps are being taken through the administration to ensure their safe shelter, he added.
