The government is likely to place the national budget for fiscal year 2024-25 (FY25) in the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) on June 6.
"The national budget for FY25 will be placed in Jatiya Sangsad on 6 June 2024. Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali will unveil the budget in the JS on that day. The ministry has already distributed responsibilities among the officials concerned in this regard," a senior official of the ministry confirmed the matter.
The size of the next budget is expected to be around Taka 8.0 lakh crore, said the official, adding that controlling the rising inflation is likely to get the highest priority in the budget.
The budget for FY25 will be the country's 53rd budget and the 25th of the Awami League government in 6th terms.
Tajuddin Ahmed presented the country's first budget as finance minister of the post-independence Bangabandhu government in 1972. The size of the country's first budget was Taka 7.86 billion and ADP size was Taka 5.01 billion.
