After two hours of rainfall since Saturday morning, streets and alleys in the capital were waterlogged causing inconvenience to commuters.
Several areas in the capital still had ankle-deep or even more water accumulated on their streets.
The Meteorological Department recorded 87 millimeters rain between 6:00am and 9:00am and thunderstorm [Kalbaishakhi] at 52 kilometres per hour.
Omar Faruq, a meteorologist at the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, confirmed the matter.
After the rainfall, various parts of the capital were inundated, as reported by our correspondents across different areas.
Many city areas in the capital, including Mirpur 10, Mirpur 11, Shyamoli, Mohammadpur, Dhanmondi, Purana Paltan, Gulistan, Old Dhaka, Bangshal Road, Bijoy Sarani, Eskaton, Farmgate and Tejgaon, went under water.
The rainfall triggered acute traffic congestion in many parts of the city and many vehicles, including cars and CNGs were stopped.
Residents had to suffer a lot and could not come out of home as knee-height water became stagnant in and around places of Dhanmondi.
