2 Kuki-Chin militants among three detained in capital

Members of police have arrested three alleged militants from the capital, including two trained by the Kuki-Chin indigenous separatist group, officers said on Tuesday.

A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police’s Lalbagh Division with the help of Special Branch (SB) made the arrests in Kalyanpur and Gabtali areas of the capital on Monday.

They are Rana Sheikh alias Amir Hossain, coordinator of Jama’atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya in the greater Faridpur region, Mashiur Rahman alias Milon Talukder, a member of Jama’atul Ansar, and Habibur Rahman, a freshly minted militant.

Of them, Amir and Milon took trainings from Kuki-Chin in the hilly tracts, said Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Harun Or Rashid at a press briefing today (May 14).

Harun further said that Amir is a holder of Black Belt award in martial arts and has already sent three newly recruited militants to Bandarban for getting trained.

Amir paid one lakh taka to the Kuki-Chin for training the new members, said DB chief Harun.

Mashiur who was once a member of Islamic Shashantantra Andalan took trainings from Kuki-Chin by staying in Bandarban for two years.

Habib is an employee of Alfa Islamic Life Insurance. Amir motivated Habib to joint militancy, and ultimately recruited him recently.
