4.5kg gold seized at Shahjalal, one held

Members of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) seized around 4.492 kilograms of gold from a passenger at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Friday morning.

CIID Assistant Director Pradip Kumar Sarkar said Shahid Mia, a passenger of the US-Bangla Airlines flight (BS 346) which landed at the airport at 8:41am on Friday, was carrying the gold inside his luggage.

As the weight of the luggage seemed unusual, the CIID members challenged him. After searching the luggage, they found the gold and seized those.

The seized gold has been deposited in the customs warehouse.

Shahid was handed over to the Airport police station on Friday night, and a case was filed against him in this regard, Pradip added.

The estimated market value of the seized gold is over Tk4.5 crore, according to the CIID.
