The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) authorities will construct five more metro rail stations for passengers to avail of the elevated services from Dhaka’s Uttara to Tongi in Gazipur.
Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) Managing Director MAN Siddique said the work on extending the MRT Line-6 from Motijheel to Kamalapur is progressing, and at the same time, the authorities have started the process to extend the 7.5km rail route from Uttara to Tongi railway station.
He was speaking at an event titled “Branding Seminar on Dhaka Metro Rail” held in a city hotel on Sunday,
An additional five lakh passengers would be able to avail the services after completion of the work on this route, he also said.
The new five stations would be built in Diabari Bazar, Sonargaon Janapad Road East, Sonargaon Janapad Road West, Tongi Bazar, and Tongi railway station, Siddique added.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the country’s first-ever electricity-powered elevated rail system on the Uttara–Agargaon route in the capital on 28 December 2022. On 4 November last year, she launched the services on the Agargaon-Motijheel section.
