Members of Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained four men of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) from a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.
The detainees are – Amir Hossain, 29, son of Deen Mohammad of Block H-81, Camp-17; Ziaur Rahman, 32, son Fazal Karim of Block-H of same camp; Saydun Amin, 30, son of Abdus Salam of Block C-4 of Camp-4; and Md HJarun, 22, son of Badsha Mia of Block-A of Camp-7.
APBn-14 assistant commander and Superintendant of Police Md Arefin Jewel confirmed the matter.
He said, “We had information that some armed people gathered in the Rohingya camp of extension number 20 of Ukhiya upazila to commit a crime.
Later, a APBn team conducted a drive in Ghayam Bagan outside the barbed wire boundary of Rohingya camp-20, Block S-1/B-7 in Ukhiya from 3am to 6am on Sunday, he added.
The officer said sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the ARSA men stared firing and in retaliation APBn member opened fire. Later, they detained four members of the terrorist group.
Four hand grenades, seven locally-made guns, two walkie-talkie with chargers, nine rounds of bullets, two locally-made sharp weapons, and halmates were recovered from them, said Arefin.
There are number of cases on many offences, including murder, extortion, against the detainees with different police stations, the assistant commander said.
