Lieutenant General Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of General Staff (CGS), has been promoted to general and appointed as the new Chief of Army Staff.
The Defence Ministry made the announcement on Tuesday (June 11) issuing a gazette notification.
The tenure of Waker-Uz-Zaman will start from 23 June and he will serve the post for the next three years.
He will replace current army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.
Waker-Uz-Zaman assumed the duties of Chief of General Staff of Bangladesh Army on 1 January 2024.
An alumnus of Bangladesh Military Academy, the General was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 20 December 1985.
