Metro Rail service to resume within 7 days, hopes Adviser Fauzul

Interim Government’s Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan said on Sunday that efforts have been taken to resume Dhaka Metro Rail services within the next seven days.

He made the announcement during an introductory meeting with officials at the ministry in Dhaka.

The adviser highlighted a renewed focus on development projects, ensuring that progress reaches not only Dhaka but also overlooked areas.

He emphasized the importance of cost-efficiency in every project, stressing that budget constraints must be strictly followed.

Regarding the procurement issue, the adviser announced that the common practice of single-source procurement will be phased out in favor of competitive tendering. This shift aims to eliminate favoritism and enhance transparency.

Addressing the issue of inadequate parking on major roads in Dhaka, he directed that measures be implemented to prevent vehicles from stopping arbitrarily, which should help reduce congestion and improve traffic flow.

Beyond Dhaka and major cities, the adviser also emphasized the need for development in areas with high pedestrian traffic.

He also discussed the high cost of road construction in Bangladesh, insisting that this perception needs to change. Contracts will be awarded based on performance, rather than assigning all projects to a single contractor.
