5 National Museum custodians suspended over stealing of valuable coins

DHAKA: Five employees of the National Museum have been suspended in connection with the stealing of 26 valuable artifact items of historic importance, including coins and medals.

After investigation, a probe body formed on June 30 decided on suspension of deputy keeper Noor-e Nasrin, assistant keeper Saifuzzaman and security guards Dulal Mia, Abdul Karim and Alamgir Chowdhury.

Earlier, Director-General of the National Museum Prokash Chandra Das filed a case with Shahbagh thana on June 26 in connection with the heist.

Investigating officer (IO) of the case and Shahbagh thana SI Abdur Rahim told banglanews24.com.bd that none has so far been arrested in this case. “Investigation is on.”

He said Dr. Rezaul Karim, an official of the department concerned, recently went on LPR. “He would be interrogated to make the matter clear.”

Rahim, however, declined to go into details “in the interest of secrecy of the case”.
