The Police Headquarters has directed all Officers-in-Charge (OCs) across the country not to arrest government employees without solid evidence in connection with cases related to the student movement.

This decision came during the first meeting of the Law and Order Advisory Council.

The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a letter to the Police Headquarters on 8 September, which was followed by a directive signed by DIG (Confidential) Kamrul Hasan on 10 September and dispatched to police units nationwide.

The letter said that following the decision of the first meeting of the Advisory Council on Law and Order, no government employee shall be arrested without solid evidence in cases filed by the families of those killed during the movement or by any affected individual.

It further mentions that if the preliminary investigation finds no involvement of the accused, their names will be withdrawn from the case.

Notably, hundreds of cases have been filed against various individuals, including former and current government officials, politicians, activists, and journalists, since the Dr Muhammad Yunus-led interim government took office following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s regime last month amid a mass uprising.
