The Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives has warned Bangladeshi nationals that attempting to work while on a tourist visa could result in imprisonment and fines.
In an advisory issued on Sunday (August 17), the mission clarified that there is no legal provision allowing individuals to take up employment in the Maldives on a tourist or visit visa.
It further stated that those arriving on tourist visas cannot later convert them into work permits.
The High Commission urged prospective workers to verify their work permits in advance before travelling, stressing that attempts to seek employment under a tourist visa would be considered a violation of Maldivian law and could lead to serious legal consequences.
