5 killed as pickup hits parked covered van in Chattogram 

Five people were killed after a pickup van hit a stationary covered van in the Akbar Shah City Gate area of Chattogram early Monday morning (August 18).

The accident occurred around 4:55 am, according to the Chattogram division of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.

The deceased have been identified as Akash Das (26), Ajit Das (24), Roni Das (25), Jewel Das (18), and Md. Sohag (32), all residents of the Sitakunda area. 

The victims were fish traders en route to Fishery Ghat to collect fish, travelling in a pickup truck carrying a total of ten traders.

Md. Alamgir Hossain, Deputy Assistant Director of the Chattogram Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the matter.

He said the collision occurred when the pickup truck struck a parked covered van. Three individuals died at the scene, while five others sustained injuries and were transported to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Two of the injured later succumbed to their injuries at the hospital.

Sub-Inspector Md. Sajjad of Akbar Shah Police Station confirmed that police and fire service personnel responded promptly to the incident and conducted rescue operations. 

The bodies of the deceased are currently in police custody, he added.
