DHAKA: It`s Valentine`s Day! Love is in the air, it is all around and it is in your heart. Valentine`s Day is a special day and it becomes all the more interesting when someone receives gifts and wishes from his/her loved ones. Love is the feeling that joins two souls and brings two hearts together. Why not bring those lovely words to your lips and express your feelings for your partner or loved ones.
The day is being celebrated by hundreds of people across the country on Friday elsewhere in the world. Especially the youths are ready to move around the city with their beloved one. People come out with colorful dresses and a festive look. Couples feel the day as their day of love in the romantic atmosphere everywhere.
Though love is not for a special day but it can be easier to express one’s love in a special way in the day. Our country is practicing this traditional day for last few years with gifting cards, roses, dresses, heart shaped show pieces and so on. Moreover it is said that flowers express our feelings better, when we fall short of the words. Most of the people unconsciously observe the day without knowing its history.
The history of Valentine`s Day is obscure, and further clouded by various fanciful legends. The holiday`s roots are in the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, a fertility celebration commemorated annually on February 15. Pope Gelasius I recast this pagan festival as a Christian feast day circa 496, declaring February 14 to be St. Valentine`s Day.
According to another legend, Valentine was a prisoner who fell in love with a young woman who came to see him often. It is believed that she was his jailor`s daughter. Before his untimely death he wrote her a love letter before he was killed in 14 February of that time, signed “From your Valentine.”
Family members and friends are like a precious gem which is hard to find, difficult to part with and treasured forever. In this day one can easily express his/her love to his mother, father, brother, sister, kids or friends with the best wishes which can touch his/her family with the soft feather of love. A true friend can be recognized with love, respect, care, feelings and moreover understanding. Good friends are confined to each other, shares not only their joys but also their sorrows.
The students of Dhaka University, the top educational institute of the country, have chalked out various programs celebrating the day. Besides this, the five star hotels, motels, many coffee shops, ice-cream parlors, fast food corners, restaurants and amusement parks are offering special arrangements for their customers to treat them in a special way in a special day. Moreover many special programs are to be telecast or on air in several Television channels and radio stations.
