Baby girl abducted during Azimpur robbery rescued

Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) rescued an eight-month-old girl early Saturday (Nov 16) from the Mohammadpur area of the capital, following her abduction during a robbery at a house in Dhaka's Azimpur area on Friday.

Based on the information, the RAB team conducted a raid in Mohammadpur early Saturday and recovered Zafia, according to a source at RAB headquarters.

One suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident.

The robbery took place on Friday at a residence in the Medical Staff Quarters of Azimpur, where robbers broke in and stole valuables, including cash. While fleeing, they also kidnapped the baby.

According to police, a woman had moved into the flat of Farzana Akhter as a sublet tenant just a day before the incident. On Friday morning, two men, claiming to be the woman's brothers, entered the flat and held Farzana hostage. They looted valuables, including Tk 1.5 lakh in cash and four tolas of gold ornaments, before escaping with the child.

Farzana, who is employed by the Ministry of Home Affairs, resides in the flat with her husband and their baby.
