Fire on Mahua train disrupts Dhaka-Mymensingh rail link

Rail communication between Dhaka and Mymensingh has been snapped after a fire broke out on the Mohanganj-bound Mahua commuter train in Gazipur’s Sreepur upazila this morning (April 3).

The blaze, which erupted around 11:00 am in a power coach near Satkhamair Railway Station, was brought under control by two units of the Fire Service.

No casualties were reported, however.

According to fire officials, the fire originated in the generator compartment of the train and spread rapidly. The train was promptly halted, and emergency responders were dispatched to the scene.

“We received the fire alert at 11:11 am and rushed two units to the location,” said Rezaul Karim, a firefighter from Sreepur Fire Station. “The fire was under control by 11:55 am and fully extinguished by 12:30 pm.”

Belal Ahmed, another Fire Service officer on-site, confirmed that there were no injuries.

He also said authorities are currently assessing the extent of the damage, and rail services remain suspended along the Dhaka-Mymensingh route until further notice.
