DHAKA: Deputy Leader of the House in Parliament Syeda Sajeda Chowdhury will act as President of the ruling Awami League as Prime Minister and party chief Sheikh Hasina is now abroad.

Prime Minister Hasina left for Abuja, the capital of Nigeria, on Tuesday night on a three-day visit to attend the D-8 summit.

A party spokesman Wednesday said she will return home on July 10. “Presidium member Sajeda Chowdhury will perform as Acting President of the party during Sheikh Hasina’s stay abroad.”
