The government has said Bangladesh will fully cooperate with Malaysian authorities in investigating the recent arrest of 36 Bangladeshis for their suspected involvement in a radical militant network.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Bangladesh High Commission in Kuala Lumpur is in close contact with the relevant Malaysian agencies and has formally requested detailed information about the detainees and the allegations brought against them.
Of the 36 Bangladeshis arrested, five have been formally charged in Malaysian courts, while the rest are under further investigation or face possible deportation.
The ministry said the government is closely monitoring developments and the High Commission will extend necessary support to the expatriate Bangladeshis wherever required.
Bangladesh reiterated its firm commitment to combat all forms of terrorism, violent extremism and militancy, and expressed readiness to extend full cooperation to Malaysia in this regard.
