The Election Commission (EC) has recommended increasing one parliamentary seat in Gazipur and reducing one in Bagerhat ahead of the upcoming national elections, based on updated voter statistics.
Election Commissioner Md Anwarul Islam Sarkar made the announcement at a press conference held at the EC Secretariat in Agargaon, Dhaka on Wednesday.
He said constituencies are being restructured in accordance with the number of voters in each district.
“Districts with a higher number of voters will gain seats, and those with fewer voters may lose seats. The boundary revision has been done based on voter data,” he said.
He said, “We formed a technical expert committee to review and recommend changes. The final decision was made following expert consultations and consensus within the commission.”
The move is part of the EC’s efforts to ensure fair representation and an effective electoral process, the official added.
