Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) today (Aug 31) forecast comparatively heavier rainfall in six divisions, with the possibility of isolated heavy showers in parts of the country.

In its bulletin, meteorologist Kh. Hafizur Rahman said the monsoon trough extends across Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal and Bangladesh into Assam.

The monsoon is currently less active over Bangladesh and weak to moderate over the northern Bay of Bengal, he added.

For the 24 hours until Monday morning (September 1), light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are expected at a few places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at isolated spots in Khulna and Barishal. Isolated moderate to heavy showers may also occur, while day and night temperatures are likely to rise slightly across the country.

The forecast for Monday morning to Tuesday morning (September 2) indicates rain or thundershowers at most places in Dhaka, Barishal, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions, and at many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Khulna. Isolated moderate to heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely. Day and night temperatures are expected to decrease slightly.

Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning (September 3), light to moderate rain or thundershowers with gusty winds are likely in some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at a few spots in Dhaka and Mymensingh. Isolated heavy rain is also forecast, while temperatures may rise slightly.

For Wednesday to Thursday morning (September 4), showers are expected at many places in Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and at some areas of Rangpur, Rajshahi and Dhaka. Isolated heavy rainfall is also likely. Day and night temperatures are forecast to remain nearly unchanged.

From Thursday to Friday morning (September 5), the forecast suggests light to moderate rain or thundershowers in parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, and at a few places in Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram. Isolated heavy showers are also expected, with temperatures remaining steady.

The extended outlook suggests that rainfall activity may increase towards the end of the five-day period.
