Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured when a traditional racing boat capsized after colliding with a shallow engine-run vessel during practice in Ullapara, Sirajganj.
The accident occurred on Friday (August 29) afternoon near Dahkula Bridge in Lahiri Mohanpur Union, as a boat named Mayer Doa was returning from practice ahead of a local regatta.
Locals said the vessel collided head-on with a mechanized boat, causing the racing boat to overturn.
Ten rowers were rescued with injuries and taken to hospitals in Ullapara. Two others went missing and their bodies were recovered from the river late at night.
Ullapara police identified the deceased as Rohich Uddin, 43, son of Saheb Ali, and Nurul Islam, 37, son of Kobad Ali, both residents of Chaksar village in Boropangashi Union.
Confirming the incident, Ullapara police chief Md Rakibul Islam said the crash resulted in multiple casualties, and both bodies were later recovered from the river.
