Two men — the owner and the driver of a drum truck — were killed in a collision between a drum truck and a passenger train at a rail crossing in the Dakshinkhan area of Gazipur city.

The fatal incident occurred shortly after midnight on Tuesday (Sept 2), around 12:15 am, according to police sources.

The victims were identified as Babul Khan, 50, son of Shah Alam from Abdullahpur in Dhaka's Uttara West police station area, and Ujjal Hossain, 37, son of Kurman Ali from Poyla Purbo Para in Ghior upazila of Manikganj district.

Mohammad Ali Jinnah, Sub-Inspector at Tongi Railway Outpost, said the Panchagarh Express — a Dhaka-bound passenger train originating from Panchagarh — was travelling through the Dakshinkhan area when the collision occurred. At that time, a drum truck was attempting to cross the railway tracks.

As the truck was crossing, it was struck by the oncoming train, leaving its driver Ujjal Hossain death on the spot.

The truck’s owner, Babul Khan, who was inside the vehicle, sustained critical injuries. He was rushed to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.

The train continued on its journey following the collision. Police arrived at the scene, recovered the bodies, and initiated legal procedures, officials said.
