A United States Navy destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald (DDG-62), has arrived in Bangladesh on a three-day goodwill mission aimed at strengthening naval cooperation between the two countries, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Wednesday.

The guided-missile destroyer was received by the Bangladesh Navy ship BNS Abu Ubaidah, with officers from both sides exchanging greetings upon arrival.

According to ISPR, the visit seeks to bolster professional ties through the exchange of experience, expertise, and operational knowledge. Joint activities and professional interactions during the visit are expected to enhance coordination and mutual understanding between naval personnel of Bangladesh and the United States.

The statement added that the engagement would provide an effective platform for skills sharing and assist the Bangladesh Navy in advancing its capabilities in line with modern maritime technologies.

Representatives from the US Embassy in Dhaka were also present at the port during the ship’s arrival. The Fitzgerald is scheduled to depart Bangladeshi waters on October 10.
