GAZIPUR: Reckless truck driving took a college girl’s life in Gazipur on Saturday night as the lorry knocked her off a rickshaw and then ran over her on Dhaka bypass road.

The deceased, Ruma, 21, daughter of Mir Abdul Matin of Meghdubi village in the district, was a final-year honours (Management) student of Tongi College.

Naojor highway police-outpost sergeant Mostafizur Rahman told banglanews24.com.bd that Ruma was returning home from Mirerbazar with her father by rickshaw. “Suddenly a truck hit the rickshaw from the back and she fell off the rickshaw. She died on the spot as the demon truck ran over her.”

Ruma’s father, Mir Abdul Matin, had a minor injury from the accident.

Her family received her body late Saturday night without any postmortem, as the family wanted.

Police seized the truck, but the driver fled the scene.
